The Decisions We Make…

Dear World!

It is almost Christmas as well as the end of a decade, and the beginning of another. As I look by through the 2010s, I realized how much God worked with me to get to where I am today. Nine years ago, I was a freshman/sophomore in high school, dreaming about becoming a doctor…and now I am one. In between those 9 years, God has helped me achieve my dream. Whether it was through miracles, or people, or experiences, God was with me every step of the way. On November 3, 2015, I made the decision to make him Lord of my life. This was the most  impactful decision that I had ever made. With this decision, I was baptized and became a true Christian. A real child of God according to the scriptures. Since then, I have seen God moved in the most miraculous ways. However, there were many other things I’ve seen. That decision showed me the evil in my heart, how often I disobey God, reject God, and even curse God.

This morning I woke up, and I made many bad decisions. Out of 10 decisions only 1 was a good decision.

I felt my spirit telling me:

Make a choice:

Do you wish to submit to your fleshly desires which will lead to death? Or do you wish to submit to God’s will which will lead to eternal life?

This is an easy answer right? Think about your choices…how often do we as humans choose things that will harm us over things that will help us. Whether it is food, what we do with money, our time, our hobbies, our friends and family, our job, our faith… We make many choices, and I would argue that most of those choices will ultimately harm us.

If it’s not God’s answer…it is the wrong answer. Many people will disagree, but that doesn’t change the truth. God will let you choose the wrong answer, but he really wants you to make the right choice.

Deuteronomy 30:18-20

This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Here Moses is speaking to the Israelites. He gives them a choice, with the heavens and earth as witnesses. Make your choice: Do you want life or death? Do you want blessings or curses?

I felt that this questions was asked to me this morning. I had to think a lot before I gave an answer. But before I answered the questions, I heard God telling me to choose life. He loves us, he doesn’t want us away from him…but at the same time, it’s our choice to love him, listen to him, and hold fast to him.

I chose life…and in response God told me to prove it. He ordered me to write on my blog regarding the Decisions We Make. Write my testimony for display for whoever wants to read it. So in return not only did I make my choice, I backed it up by doing what he says.

As we enter to a new year and a new decade, let us enter with a renewal (or a brand new) relationship with Jesus Christ. His birthday is coming up soon, and as much as the world wants to ignore the true meaning of Christmas, I will not. This is the anniversary celebrating the birth of God in human flesh. The birth of God among us. The birth of the river of life, the word of God, the sacrificial lamb, and the roaring lion.

And with a smile, I say goodbye 2019. Goodbye to all the sins I decided to continue to do. I pray with all my heart that whenever I return to read this, I remember that the decision I made today, is still alive and active.

With love,

Ayodeji Alaketu
